Wildlife Gardening Talk - Growing Vegetables in Small Spaces and Containers, 8th May 2025, 6:00 to 8:00 at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre (5.9 miles)
Find out how to make the most of a small space to grow delicious organic vegetables with expert Robert Longstaff.
You don't need a big space or years of experience to grow delicious vegetables in a wildlife friendly way. Come along and hear our visiting organic gardening expert Robert Longstaff share his experience and give you the knowledge you need to successfully grow veg in small spaces and containers.
Even if you only have a windowsill, balcony or porch it is possible to grow fresh vegetables and herbs. If you have more space it can still be beneficial to grow in containers, providing special conditions and concentrated care, allowing more to be grown in a small space. We will discuss types of container and compost, siting, feeding and general maintenance, as well as which varieties work best and how to maximise yields.
The talk will start at 6pm in the education centre, but the reserve will be open from 5pm if you would like to take a walk or have a picnic first. We have our own vegetable garden in small raised beds onsite which you can explore too. After the main talk there will be time for questions. Hot drinks and biscuits provided. This event has been made possible by the Vale of the White Horse District Council Climate Action Fund.
